2 weeks to go…

Moving:

Today marks just 2 weeks to go and it’s starting to all come together. We have started the moving process from the flat, started to say goodbye to people we are not going to see until we come back and the cats have now moved in with my Mum and Dad. The journey taking them up to Spalding was better than expected but still pretty traumatic for them, we got them settled into their new home and I’m sure before long they will be enjoying the great outdoors again and making friends with my Mum and Dad’s cat Millie.

We moved our bed up to Spalding, who knew the Tempur mattress was going to be so heavy – even 4 months of bootcamp couldn’t prepare me for that awkward lump of memory foam! We tried A LOT of techniques to move it – lifting, sliding, shoving and then Chris cracked it and managed to roll it up the stairs to its new home where we got to sleep on our cloud for one last night. We are now on a mattress on the floor for the next week which I’m sure will still be more luxurious then the places we will be encountering over the next 6 months.

I have a few moving bruises but I did however manage to get the Friends ‘pivot’ quote in a few times! We will be doing the rest of the moving and preparing the flat to let this weekend, and as Chris spent his first night in the flat with a dominos on the living room floor that’s how we will spend our last night!  Then were moving is with Chris’ Mum and Dad for our final week as were officially homeless! (Thanks again Mike & Sandra)

Plan update:

We have booked a bit more of our travels up now. Following the first 2 nights in Bangkok we are going to get a 2 hour train to Ayutthaya and spend another 2 nights there! I have got a deluxe double room booked here but it was £11 a night so not holding up too much hope for the level of luxury we will get. The train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya is only 15bhat which is around 40p, this is for 3rd class so I’m guessing we will get to understand the term ‘cattle class’ fairly quickly. Following our two nights in Ayutthaya we are heading to Chiang Mai. This is a 12 hour journey so we are taking a sleeper train; we are both really looking forward to this experience. Then finally we have a two night homestay booked at Chiang Mai. I think we will stay a while in Chiang Mai as there is loads to do in the area, but will book this up when we are out there. We are planning on just going with the flow allowing ourselves to stay longer if we enjoy it or move on if were not, but wanted to get the first week sorted so we could get our head around how things work out there.

Baggage:

We have our bags now and have both pretty much packed and ready to go! I’ve got a 40L bag and Chris has a 65L one. By getting smaller bags it means we are forced to travel light, as we will be constantly on the go so it’s important we keep things light (at our age!) and I’m sure our backs will thank us!

So the 2 week countdown is in full swing and the to-do list is getting ticked off! Catch you soon Lisa & Chris xx
